The other day I bought the book “Recipes to lose weight forever” by Angela Quintas, which caught my interest. It’s the second part of her bestseller “Lose weight forever”.

The truth is that I have never even heard of it, but it appealed to me while I was skimming through it in the Corte Ingles, and so I decided to buy it. I found it very interesting; it is didactic, simple to understand and informative. In addition, the recipes are truly easy and tasty to the very sensitive palate of those who want to lose weight. The message of the book is that you can enjoy food even while losing weight. It’s also great for anyone who, without any weight problems, wants to have a healthy and balanced diet, for which the book offers a series of menus at the end of the book with these delicious recipes.

OPINIONS OF THE BOOK “RECIPES TO LOSE WEIGHT FOREVER”

The book offers us a method to lose weight with very appetizing dishes that are easy to prepare; not your usual lettuce with chicken breast or boiled Swiss chard that not only makes you drop your diet very quickly, but also often produces an imbalance in our diet due to a nutritional disproportion.

What is essential to understand is that there are no miracles and when you want to lose weight, the most important thing is to learn how to eat well. It is a change of habits that has to be maintained for life if we do not want to regain the weight.

This method emphasizes planning and proposes a diet lasting approximately one and a half months. Maybe I see it a little too full of protein at the beginning, but it holds true that if you lose some weight in the first few weeks, psychologically speaking one is encouraged to keep on going and lose more; once the desired weight has been reached, we can set some nutritional guidelines to keep our weight steady.

This last stage of maintenance is the most complicated to keep alive over time; if we rebound to our previous eating habits, we literally throw all our efforts overboard. In the end, it introduces all food groups, but always bear in mind that this is a lifelong change. Depending on the food group, we can consume it more or less often every week. The diet is planned in a way that it includes many different food groups, although in moderation.

It might be a little complicated if you have little knowledge of nutrition to organize these recipes, but as there are several examples categorized by color, solving the problem. For those who do not want to meticulously plan what to eat, just follow the example and be ready to start losing pounds. Very educational, with the colors organized according to the stage of the diet we are currently in.

In the book we find numerous tricks to improve the recipes, as well as educational content presented in a very didactic way, ensuring that it can be understood by anyone without any need of technical nutritional knowledge.

The recipe that we present to you today is an alternative to cold cuts, that burden us with calories and fat.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE SALTED CHICKEN?

It is prepared with salt in the oven, similar to gilthead so that the addition of fats and carbohydrates is zero. The salt lets the turkey breast, or in our case the chicken, preserve the liquids making it very juicy. It is ideal for a snack between meals or even as a main course with yogurt sauce, which the author proposes and which will be our next recipe.

HOW LONG DOES THE CHICKEN LAID IN SALT HAVE TO BE IN THE OVEN?

If we use chicken breast, it will need about 20 minutes in an oven preheated at 200ºC, and about 40 minutes if it is turkey breast.

A very simple recipe and surprisingly pleasant to the palate. Even for the kids’ lunch sandwich it is very healthy, and combined with natural tomato, a great snack for school.

The only thing that I would change about this recipe is the amount of chicken breasts needed. It calls for 6-8 chicken breasts, which is obviously excessive for 4 people. 2 or 3 filets would be more than enough for 4 people.

HOW CAN I SEASON THE OVEN-COOKET CHICKEN?

We can season the chicken with rosemary and thyme, giving it a Mediterranean taste. If you enjoy Indian aromas, then adding black pepper and curry might be best. Either way is excellent.

The pictures are of excellent quality, clean and perfectly balanced. Soft light, sharp photos and a worked styling. These are some of the best pictures of food I have ever seen in Spanish cook books, and make you want to eat it ALL.

The ingredients are totally normal and can be found in any supermarket without problems: turkey or chicken breast, largely-grained salt, rosemary and thyme. No extravagant ingredients, very simple, creative and most of all, delicious.

Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to about 200 ° C. Cover the bottom of a baking dish with a thick layer of salt. Sprinkle the salt lightly with water or mix it with egg white (see the recipe "Golden on salt").
  2. Place the turkey breast on the salt. Sprinkle with rosemary and thyme (or with black pepper and curry). Cover the breast completely with another thick layer of salt and sprinkle with a splash of water.
  3. Bake about 40 minutes if you use turkey (or 20 minutes in the case of chicken). When the salt is dry and begins to brown, remove the dish from the oven and allow to cool.
  4. Once cold, remove the salt crust with a fork or spoon and remove the breasts from dad. Cut the breast into thin slices.

TRICKS

The turkey breast with salt, free of additives, is ideal for breakfast and mid-morning. If you keep it in the fridge, inside an airtight tupperware, it can be kept for up to six days.

PRESENTATION

Although the original recipe calls for 6 chicken breasts, 3 breasts are enough for 4 people.

The breasts look very original if we present them on a wooden board that we have a little more beautiful at home. We cut the breasts into slices. The cutting board of the photos is from Zara Home. Chop rosemary and thyme very finely and sprinkle over the breasts. If we place the cut fillets diagonally, the layout will be more visually appealing. We accompany it with a yogurt sauce that we will make in the next post.
